Shoot Growth and Flower Bud Production of Peony Plants under Subtropical Conditions

چکیده
Peony plants require temperate winter temperatures to break underground bud dormancy and allow shoot emergence flowering in spring. This study assessed whether artificial chilling at 4 °C for 2–6 weeks could induce under subtropical conditions. It also pre-treatment cool prior chilling, or gibberellin application after promoted flowering. Artificial 6 the greatest emergence. Pre-treatment did not affect growth flower production but it improved from treated with gibberellin. Gibberellin more than doubled number of shoots per plant without affecting length. The optimal treatment combination emergence, was 20 8 over an 8-day period autumn, early winter, 250 mL 100 mg/L GA3, before returning provided medians 3 (0–7) (0–31) buds second third years production, respectively. flowers can be produced climates using gibberellin, allowing out-of-season market supply.

Peony (Paeonia spp.) is one of the most popular garden plants in temperate regions. They were introduced into cultivation in China hundreds of years ago, and have since been spread widely to many countries. According to morphological traits and life form, the genus is divided into tree and herbaceous peonies. Numerous cultivars of herbaceous peonies have been developed to satisfy demand for col...
متن کاملEffects of Water Stress and Fusarium oxysporum f. sp. lycoperseci on Growth (leaf area, plant height, shoot dry matter) and Shoot Nitrogen Content of Tomatoes Under Greenhouse Conditions
Effects of water stress and Fusarium oxysporum f. sp. lycoperseci (Fol) on the growth of tomatoes were studied in a greenhouse experiment. Treatments consisted of five levels of water stress (1, 3, 5, 7 and 9 day irrigation intervals). Infested soil consisting of 400 chlamydospores g1 of Fol and non infested soil were used. Experiments arranged in a completely randomized design with 8 replicati...
متن کاملShoot bending promotes flower bud formation by miRNA‐mediated regulation in apple (Malus domestica Borkh.)
Flower induction in apple (Malus domestica Borkh.) trees plays an important life cycle role, but young trees produce fewer and inferior quality flower buds. Therefore, shoot bending has become an important cultural practice, significantly promoting the capacity to develop more flower buds during the growing seasons. Additionally, microRNAs (miRNAs) play essential roles in plant growth, flower i...

During Space Shuttle STS-95 mission, we cultivated seedlings of rice (Oryza sativa L. cv. Koshihikari and cv. Tan-ginbozu) and Arabidopsis (Arabidopsis thaliana L. cv. Columbia and cv. etr1-1) for 68.5, 91.5, and 136 hr on board, and then analyzed changes in the nature of their cell walls, growth, and morphogenesis under microgravity conditions. In space, elongation growth of both rice coleopti...
متن کاملGrowth and cortical microtubule dynamics in shoot organs under microgravity and hypergravity conditions
The body shape of plants varied in proportion to the logarithm of the magnitude of gravity in the range from microgravity to hypergravity to resist the gravitational force. Here we discuss the roles of cortical microtubule and 65 kDa microtubule-associated protein-1 (MAP65-1) in gravity-induced modification of growth anisotropy. Microgravity stimulated elongation growth and suppressed lateral e...
